WHAT TO EXPECT YOUR FIRST TIME !

INTIMIDATING! That is a word often used by people when visiting a new church for the first time because you never know what to expect. The purpose of the visitors section of our website is to acquaint you with the ministry of Sussex County Bible Church and to answer some frequently asked questions. SUNDAY MORNING WORSHIP : 9:00 & 10:45 a.m.
Here you can expect a joyful and enthusiastic atmosphere. You will be greeted at the door by helpful caring people who are always excited to see a new face. We encourage you to come a few minutes early to get settled in. The central focus of the entire service is the greatness and glory of God emphasized by the preaching of God’s word. Other elements of the service include corporate Scripture reading, singing, and prayer.

SUNDAY EVENING BIBLE STUDY : 6:00 p.m.
The focus of Sunday evening Bible study at SCBC is on the verse by verse study of God’s Word and genuine fellowship. Questions and discussion are encouraged during this more informal time of study.

WEDNESDAY EVENING PRAYER : 7:00 p.m. 
Our Wednesday prayer time provides an opportunity to gather together for a time of joyful singing as well as a time to seek God in prayer. We consider the time we spend in prayer on Wednesday evening one of the most important and vital meetings we have here at SCBC.

WHAT IS YOUR MUSIC LIKE?  
Our music is a blend of old and contemporary hymns and contemporary choruses rich in Biblical content.    

WHAT IF I HAVE CHILDREN OR YOUTH  
We love children at SCBC and we have a lot of them! We offer nursery and Children's Ministry at all Sunday services, as well as for our Wednesday prayer time. We believe that children’s ministry is not simply a babysitting service, but rather a life changing time for children as they grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ through His word. Currently our children’s ministry goes up through age 8.

WHAT SHOULD I WEAR TO SERVICES?  
We do not have a “dress code” at SCBC. Most of our people dress in business casual (men: khaki’s, polo shirt, etc., women: pants, blouse, etc.). We do stress modesty in all dress.    

WHAT KIND OF CHURCH ARE YOU?  
We are a Bible church meaning that we draw our beliefs solely upon the authority of the Word of God. We hold to no denominational creed.    

WHAT IS THE PREACHING LIKE?  
We believe that mankind's greatest need is to know God. This is accomplished only through His Word. Therefore we believe it is important to allow God's Word to speak for itself rather than seeking to find an issue or topic and attempt to justify it with Scripture. The sermons at SCBC are expositional in nature (preaching that takes the point of the text as the point of the sermon). This style of preaching is characterized by a verse by verse explanation of the passage with an emphasis on the historical, and grammatical context. Only when we understand the original purpose of a passage, and what it meant to its original audience, can we find application for today.
